I've been using this method with a lot of success since starting dropshipping years ago, and am surprised no one talks about it so I wanted to share my findings. I call it the breakout indicator.
The idea is very simple: When looking at a product, you need to consider two very important metrics: total orders and weekly orders.
Total orders will tell you the overall market demand for the product.
Weekly orders signal that there is current demand "right now".
If you find a product that has a weekly order count that is close to its total order, then this is a strong indicator that the product is breaking out and a good time to try and sell it. Here is the formula:
Breakout score = (Weekly Orders / Total Orders)
Anything > 0.5 is something I would dive into deeper because it means the product has gotten more orders this week than the entire time it's been around.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Let's say we find a product that has 1,989 orders this week and 35,472 total orders (screenshot below).
Initially, you may think "Wow that's a lot of orders, I should sell it". But the breakout score is just 0.05 because that's not a lot of weekly orders compared to the total. Hard pass for me. This isn't to say the product won't sell, but there are so many products to choose from I'd rather find one with a better score.
Another product has 1,177 weekly orders and 2,643 total orders. This is A LOT better and one I might keep an eye on to see if it crosses that 0.5 score threshold in a few days.

This breakout score has been one of the leading indicators of how successful a product will be for me when I begin testing it. It's helped me find several 4 and 5-figure products, so I hope someone else can use this during their own research! Of course, more research is needed once you narrow down these products, but it helps a ton.

For exemple I've find a product with a score of 0.73 but average price for this product is 3.5$
